PRAYERS FOR JAPAN

Have been submerging myself with images, news articles, videos, podcasts, etc of the devastating news of Japan. It is hitting me very close to heart. Fortunately all of my friends and their families in Japan are safe. Nevertheless, it is hard to imagine how they are taking in all these in Japan. As we are overseas, it is so easy to simply turn off the TV and close the browser. But for them... All my prayers to the citizens of Japan and wish them well for a speedy recovery.

I am extremely sadden and worry about the nuclear meltdown... How I wish there is something we can do, beside watching. We can only pray for it to be in control, somehow!

SUNDAY BIKE RIDE

We had our first (well, technically should be second, but the first got canceled due to crappy weather) group training session (GTS) up in North White Plains. It's a hilly ride with tons of potholes! It was a brutal ride, mainly because of the potholes. My body was totally aching afterward, because my arm and shoulder were used shock obsorber. Really hoping that they will fix those damn holes!

Weekday rides started last week, and I admit that it is extremely difficult to drag my ass out of bed to work, so needless to say go out to ride loops. But I really have to, because quite frankly I am freak out about Tahoe now. Re-commitment paper works are due tomorrow and I actually met the minimum as a mentor, but can I really raise the rest of the money? I have not started on any of my fundraising plan at all, and March is already coming to an end.... !!!!

THE $700 MARK

My bu had pushed that amount up to $700!!!! I can never say enough thank you to her! She basically gets the worst of me at times, and I really appreciate having her by my side. I am very fortunate to have someone who is very supportive of me to do things: crazy, lame, boring, spontaneous, etc things. What/Where/Who will I be without her =)

I love you my sunshine!

TESTING FOR YOU

Took the same little test almost 7 years ago. I scored 40 back then and now went up to 51 interesting. But then again if you read all the result, I'm sure you can fit into anyone of them, except for the extreme spectrum of both ends.
  1. When do you feel your best?
    1. in the morning
    2. during the afternoon & and early evening
    3. late at night

  2. You usually walk...
    1. fairly fast, with long steps
    2. fairly fast, with little steps
    3. less fast head up, looking the world in the face
    4. less fast, head down
    5. very slowly

  3. When talking to people you...
    1. stand with your arms folded
    2. have your hands clasped
    3. have one or both your hands on your hips
    4. touch or push the person to whom you are talking
    5. play with your ear, touch your chin, or smooth your hair

  5. When something really amuses you, you react with...
    1. a big, appreciative laugh
    2. a laugh, but not a loud one
    3. a quiet chuckle
    4. a sheepish smile

  6. When you go to a party or social gathering you...
    1. make a loud entrance so everyone notices you
    2. make a quiet entrance, looking around for someone you know
    3. make the quietest entrance, trying to stay unnoticed

  7. You're working very hard, concentrating hard, and you're interrupted, do you...
    1. welcome the break
    2. feel extremely irritated
    3. vary between these two extremes

  8. Which of the following colors do you like most?
    1. Red or orange
    2. black
    3. yellow or light blue
    4. green
    5. dark blue or purple
    6. white
    7. brown or gray

  9. When you are in bed at night, in those last few moments before going to sleep, you lie...
    1. stretched out on your back
    2. stretched out face down on your stomach
    3. on your side, slightly curled
    4. with your head on one arm
    5. with your head under the covers

  10. You often dream that you are...
    1. falling
    2. fighting or struggling
    3. searching for something or some body
    4. flying or floating
    5. you usually have dreamless sleep
    6. your dreams are always pleasant

POINTS:
  1. (a) 2 (b) 4 (c) 6
  2. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 7 (d) 2 (e) 1
  3. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 5 (d) 7 (e) 6
  4. (a) 4 (b) 6 (c) 2 (d) 1
  5. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 2
  6. (a) 6 (b) 4 (c) 2
  7. (a) 6 (b) 2 (c) 4
  8. (a) 6 (b) 7 (c) 5 (d) 4 (e) 3 (f) 2 (g) 1
  9. (a) 7 (b) 6 (c) 4 (d) 2 (e) 1
  10. (a) 4 (b) 2 (c) 3 (d) 5 (e) 6 (f) 1

Now add up the total number of points.

OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you as someone they should "handle with care". You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't always Trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved
with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who's quick to make
decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same
loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature.

UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions & who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything. They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist. Some People think you're boring. Only those who know you well know that you aren't.

IDIOT I AM, IDIOT INDEED

I would first like to apologize to the people that made a great difference in my first stage of donation process! I have failed to recognize their generous effort in the great public! How could I? Triumphant music please!!!

  • P.M. Mun - [the role has changed... you are my savior! you are now part of this movement to kick blood cancer's ass! Thank you!!!]
  • May May - [thank you for all the quotes for encouragement and fuel me up to conquer these obstacles!]
  • Ms. Lane - [I would like to thank we are a great team! I cycle, you pitch in! LOVE YOU DEARLY!!!!]
And here's the latest scope in the fundraising front: I can no longer back down from this ride. Apparently as a mentor, the recommitment amount is only $500, and miraculously I made the minimal of the amount! The following individual made it happened!
  • Elsie - [you are the first oversea person to donate! I deeply appreciate all your support even you're thousands miles away!]
  • Masako aka "Mokey" - [I simply touched by your support, without any harassment (does FB count?) heehee... Thank you for securing my crazy 100miles hilly bike ride!]
  • Crazy Lincy - [you put in the final nail in the "coffin" j/k. I am definitely psych about this ride and extremely nervous now that I am committed to it. THANK YOU!!!!!!]
Unfortunately on Saturday was pouring in Fort Lee, so our first group ride was cancel. This week we start the morning rides, but my bike is still in the shop. Must pick up bike, or will do 50 squats to work on my chicken thighs! I personally prefer riding my bike! I might actually have some participants to join me on the morning ride, which I am excited about! I hope my route is not too reckless for them =/

Side story about me being an idiot: I left my birthday present (UrbanEar Headphones) in the cab this morning, and I was yelling at myself like a lunatic. Not a good sight! Nevertheless, the geekiness or weirdo of me usually memorize the cab medallion number. So I called 3-1-1. Sometimes NYC can be quite functional and fast. I got a hold of the taxi driver and he was kind enough to come by my work to drop off the headphone. LUCKY BASTARD!!! Lesson: check everything before you exit the cab, and if anything, be a geek and remember the medallion number on a cab!

MORE CHARTS

climbing slowly but steadily

I am putting my 150% effort to ensure I can reach my fundraising goal and can finish this ride! I will make that mark damn it! My newest goal: I want the amount to be $1,200 by March 16th! What do you think? If I now have $358.88 and I have 13 days left.... If each day I get $65 of donation?

The following people have signed on to be on the "team"
  • Mr. Andrew - [donated because he wanted my secret recipe for roast rib! thank you dude!]
  • Dorothy - [my work-mom! you are awesome!! and really would like to see your recital!]
  • Crystal - [a wonderful photographer and a mom!]
  • Dai So - [my buddy back home! what am I gonna do w/o you!]
  • KF - [your identity is safe w/ me hahah... thanks for the good luck 0.88!]
  • Tina - [thank you and please don't punch me with your Thai boxing moves, I will finish this ride!]

WHERE WE STAND

a quick graph of how I was doing last year

Team! Where are you guys? Perhaps I am not being pro-active enough compare to last year? Today last year I was able to raise $1,168.22. But today? Not so quite, only a fifth of it. If it continues like this, I'm afraid that we might not be going to Tahoe? I keep saying we, because yes, I might be cycling regardless, but without your donation, I can't represent us in Tahoe =(

I don't know who has the easier part or if anyone want to switch with me. But heck let's do this together!

ESSENTIAL

ready to rumble!

20110225

THE LAST TIME TO SEE 3 DIGITS

That's right ! only 100 days left... seem so far, yet so close! last spin class is tomorrow, follow by a team social, and dinner with a TNT teammate to support her effort! Let's all charge this weekend to whatever we want to do!

if you want to understand what result is manifested in the future, look at the cause that exist in the present - Nichiren Daishonin

P.S. Which is a better idea for fundraising event?
  1. Casino Night
  2. Trivia Night
  3. Wii Sports Tournament
Let me know what you guys think...

20110223

IT'S COMING...

Time is going really fast, and currently I don't think I'm doing very well with both fundraising and training for Tahoe. For one thing, the fundraising is a huge sum of money, and frankly I don't have the chunk of money to cough up if I can't raise the funds. Let's do some simple math here:
  • 102 days left and I have to raise $4,355 more
  • means I have to raise roughly $43 per day
  • that's about $300 per week
  • $1,200 per month
So let's say I'll do Bake Sale again this year. A bag of Chocolate Chip Cookies was selling for $15 per bag. That means:
  • 3 bags per day = $45
  • 20 bags per week = $300
  • 80 bags per month = $1,200
Wow that's a lot of cookies! I should switch my occupation as a baker instead...

Second item I am worry about: the Tahoe ride is much harder than the Montauk ride. There are many many slopes going up and also in high altitude. I am actually freakin' out about climbing those hills. But the view will be gorgeous! I think I'm just freakin' out for no reason, because by the end of the training season I will be so ready for it and it should be a piece of cake! But until then, HELP!

Any ideas for fundraising? hmmmm...

Meanwhile, we got some donation!
  • Mr. Andrew - [my newest co-worker who lost your bet =) but people will thank you for this $$]
  • Ms. Akiko - [my fellow RadioLab geek! love ya and thank yoooooooou]

20110215

BUSY BUM OR LAZY BUM

I must admit, I have not been too proactive lately. I went to spin class, but didn't update on what's going on. Do you even know I started training? Not if I told you. Are people donating, and have I thank them yet? Not in the public. I apologize for being so out of the loop. One more weekend! I will be free from another good cause! Chinese New Year Meeting this weekend! See flyer below.

So yes, seriously I have been busy, and not lazy for once! So I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the first 3 people that started the donation!
  • Yin Low - [MY BRO!!!!]
  • Eva Chien - [My highly recommended acupuncturist]
  • Sandra Lloyd - [my fellow FDC sister!]
Thank you 3 to start / kick-off this great cause, and definitely supporting me with this bike ride. Have I mentioned that I am extremely nervous about it. All these uphills! What if my thighs let me down and tremble and I roll backward?! Help!!

Just as last year, I welcome donation amount equals to beer/breakfast/lunch/dinner. No amount is too small! It's all from the heart! Trust me you guys have the easier part. Riding up hill and keep that momentum is hard!

IT IS DEFINITELY WINTER

Looking from the entrance of our building

The bus hub in Williamsburg. Where are the buses?

Plow away~~~

Ice cold!

Poor bike

It's winter here alright. The most snow and bitter winter I have had for the past years. It practically snowed every week! I never thought I'll ever get bitter about winter, but man this brings me down!

But wait! I have no time to be feeling down! Cos I got a bigger mission! Got a full buffet plate in front of me!

20110126

SNOW SNOW SNOW

Can there be anymore snow? Apparently YES! If this was my commute this morning, I am not looking forward for tomorrow's.

Not liking it AT ALL!!!

FUN-DRAISING

Not my forte for sure, but if I want to meet my goal, I need to be proactive! I sent out my first email for the evening, and many more soon. So don't be surprise if you get an email. Now the question is what else I can do beside emails. I can do bake sale again, but definitely need something to hit the "bank". Hmmm....

ERIE CANAL

I got the guide book! Trip in late August with bb sis. 400miles man!!!! What the he'll is wrong with us?

20110125

GETTING STARTED

It was my first evening to fulfill my "mentor" duty. I had to man the TNT table at a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society related event. While everyone dressed up all chic and presentable, I dressed up like an endurance athlete. (Acting as if I'm a pro).

I managed to get a couple of people to put down their name
and get them to attend an info meeting to perhaps join the team.

The kick off starts next week and we dive right into training again. I am extremely nervous about the whole process. Fundraising and training from scratch again. It's been awhile since I was on a bike, and this time the ride is not only 100 miles, but actually has a pretty steep elevation change and climbs. The fundraising minimum is also much higher than last year Was I out of my mind?

20110124

IT'S OFFICIAL

I am biking some more miles to fight blood cancer! I am definitely getting a better end of the stick. Bike to get fit, have fun, meet new people, and save the world! Definitely feeling like a super hero =)

20110104

ON WITH ANOTHER DECADE

It has been one fruitful year! It's been awhile since I said that. (Or have I said anything like that before?) Nevertheless, 2010 was just full of great and positive memories! In terms of personal growth and accomplishments, it was a pretty damn good year! Made tons of new and good friends, and not letting the old ones slip away (very important!)

The New Year should not be the only time to start fresh. I need to be reminded to live everyday like no tomorrow. I can't let time slip away (more like rot away) anymore! There are many things to learn, obstacles to climb, new things to try, old things to rediscover, goals to meet, dreams to turn into reality. Let the next decade begin!
