FOOD FOOD FOOD

So last night's meal doesn't count because I was too tire to look for good ramen, or even ramen! So I went to a mall and almost had mos burger, katsu-don, and some other stuff, which would be perfectly fine. But I end up grabbing small bites of "street" food! They are not what I had on mind, but I figured it would be a good way to end my street food spree! The shrimp and squid katsu were ok. It go cold because I sat outdoor. Bad
Idea!!! The chicken liver yakitori was also ok and so was the fatty pork yakitori. But what strike the tummy was takoyaki which I don't usually like or even order. But hell people in US simply put too much sauce on it! Cos the one I had last night was just right!!!! I could taste everything!!!! It was the best takoyaki I had! Also I think it was the only thing warm for the "dinner" and the lady spoke English!

Speaking of that, it's been a super while since I traveled to a place where I don't speak the language and had no translator. Last night was also the first night since I traveled without a local tour guide (usually a friend). I was pretty scare at first. Well not scare, but concern. But heck I'm having a blast not able to speak the language and pretend to know what the person was talking about when I asked for direction. Somehow this trip is a kick in the ass that I have been in comfort zone in all levels! I need to get out and roam around more often!

As promised to self: I will eat ramen every meal until Von arrives! So today marks the start! I woke up late on purpose to rest up after a long week in Macau/HK, so lunch time started early or actually later. I wanted to check out the flea market. But the big one at Meiji shrine was not open and only the Hanazonojinja shine had a flea market, which was very disappointing. It was rarely a flea market when there were only 3 vendors! Nevertheless, the shrine was pretty. It is situated between all these tall buildings in Shinjuku.

After being "disappointed" my stomach wanted to kill me! So I basically walked around and try to find a ramen shop or even a place to eat. So came across this hole in a wall, at the corner across from all these high end department store. My first encounter of ordering machine! So glad I can read a bit katagana and of course Chinese characters, I don't know how other foreigners do it! But also thank goodness for all the display models! The ramen was ok... I think setagaya in First Ave is better. So I was again disappointed, bu I had to eat or I'll be done for the rest of the day.

Walked all over Shinjuku and then got too tire and went to a desssert place! Instant charge! Planned out for the rest of the day. Hung out at a 8 levels bookstore for 2 hours, then walled around some more. Then head to a ramen place recommended by Lonely Planet. It was weird cos the place was practically empty, but the book said it's nationally best and often have long lines. My thought? Either it got too famous but couldn't deliver the great expectation. But I went in anyway and eat just to see how "bad" it would be. I slurped the hell out! The soup was so damn good!!!!! Oishi!!!! The pork was so thinly sliced I was in heaven! The broth was thick and tasty! It left a lasting impression on my buds (taste buds)! I am now vow to find another one to beat this!

GETTING SHIT DONE, KICKING ASS

I don't know how Von and I managed to get ourselves super busy! It's been going since the year had started. All the RtE rehersals, her shows, me signing up for TNT, flew home, fundraising, trainings for the ceuntry ride, baking cookies, getting ready for our Japan trip, and the list goes on and on. Serioursly, I don't rememer when was the last time we cooked dinner and ate at home. Despise the craziness, we are loving life. It does feel like we are accomplishing things, getting them done!

The latest and greatest accomplishment on my end: I have successfully organized two of three fundraising events! The date for the musical performance by Juan Michael and Yaz at Uncle Charlie's is set! It'll be on April 7 at 8:30pm!

Also the Wii tournament at South 4th Bar is set as well! April 24 and May 1, time is to be determined, but most likely it'll be during late afternoon early evening! I thought it is awesome that both of these events will happen, and I am totally on top of things! Time to make flyers and promote the event!

It's been raining a lot for the past couple of days, but I did manage to squeezed in an early morning ride! Six in the Aye Em! 13 miles in one hour! Major morning exercise and some major dedication! Let's put it this way, I am going to ride a 100 miles in the summer. I do not want to be the last in the group and on top of that I do not want to collapse because I don't have the stemina for such a long ride. Another word, I actually want to finish the ride, look back at this many years and say: "wow! I did that? Cool!" so as much as I'm not a morning person, it is for a good cause and good exercise in the end. It will be great!

Spin class on Saturday was insane! Since it was raining we stayed in door and basically covered 18miles doing various intervals. Hardest spin class thus far, and my legs, calves, and my ass are sore. On top of that, I can't be cheap and not buy a pair of cycling shoes. Another big purchase for this, but could be worst. It could have been a $900 bike! Shoes fit very comfortably but damn it's girlie looking!

Sum up the week in pictures...

Letting my sweet tooth sink in

Went to a wonderful jazz and classical crossover concert!

My new girlie cycling shoes with the clip-ons... I mounted to see if it works, but I can't get it off. Oops! Need to head to the bike shop and get the pedals install.

Von got a whole bunch of bake sale order from her work place. As I suspect all the time, food always bring people together, especially bake goods. You don't need to have a sweet tooth or constantly crave for dessert, but cookies? Everyone will always says yes to cookies! Our whole apartment smells like cookies and cake! So it looks like if I quit my job, I can open a bakery! Hmmmm that might just be a great idea!

BEAUTIFUL DAY, BEAUTIFUL RIDE

First group ride at Fort Lee, NJ! It's far from where I live, and I was fortunate to have a teammate that lives close by. Started the morning at 6:15 and head to the city to pick up another teammate. It was such a beautiful day to ride! The sun was finally out, but damn the wind! I think I was a little under dress, but nevertheless I was doing great and we were on our way for the 23 miles bike ride.

The goal was to finish the ride in less than 2 hours. Since not everyone rides at the same speed, so the other goal is to ride however many miles you can in the first hour, then turn around and try to ride the same amount in less than an hour. Another word, haul your ass back to the start! The 13 miles mark of this ride, the "pit stop" is a coffee shop, Bunbury's Coffee. Apparently Lance Armstrong once visited, sipping coffee and having bake goods, and that was the "prize" of the ride. My group "Saturn" almost made it! We were roughly 3 miles away, which is about 12-15mins more! Bummer. So in total our group did 20 miles in 1hr 40min. Not bad for our first ride!

At the end of our ride, I was all pumped and feeling great! I was thinking "heck, let's ride more!" I am sure I can easily do another 10 miles this morning. We end up leaving at the end, because I'm sure Coach Harlan didn't want us to over do it! So when I arrive home, I told Von about the ride and everything while we were having her famous yummy meatloaf! After lunch it's pretty much all downhill. I was suppose to take a 15 min nap, get up and start with baking cookies for the bake sale! So much for the 15 min and a production day, I end up napping for 2 hours! Also, thinking that I was all fine and dandy, my body started to ache, especially my thighs! I think the slopes on the 9W kinda kicked my butt! But have no fear, cause I know I will conquer this route!

While hanging out at Strictly Bicycles, I have realized that half of my dream came true! I'm in the motorcycle culture! Well, sans "motor", but basically the same concept: the gears, the clothing, the bikes, the techniques, the socializing, etc. I mean it's basically the same thing! But for sure, it is less expensive than motorcycles, less dangerous, and more healthy! So in this case, sorry Alex, I think cycling wins heehee =)

Me and the bike 6:15am! Ready to rock it!

Coach Harlan briefing the group about the ride.
We were split into 4 groups: Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Pluto.
Guess which is the fastest and not so fast...

That ain't snow. It's ICE! The snow melted and created all these streams of ice on the ride. It gets super slippery, and I did see someone fell.

Done with the first hour, and ready to head back! Looking good =)

I <3 my bike! Despise the all the shiny new bikes I saw throughout the day, I have no intention to get a new one! This is it, and this is for keeps! I LOVE YOU!

HOME SWEET HOME?!

So I went home back in the Bay Area over the weekend since a year ago. The last two times I went back were also because of family emergency. If there is one wish I have for 2010, I wish for all my family and friends to be healthy and accident free! I do not want to go home again because of health issues again, but then again everyone ages and we can't avoid that. **sigh** I don't like the whole aging thing...

Does this happen to anyone? I went back to the Bay Area and driving, I recognize the majority of the roads and things that are located, but I can't seem to remember the details. Also, the 3 hours difference really do something to you, because the whole time I'm not sure if I was tire or sleepy or which meal I should eat. And unfortunately the two meals that I have been craving for were disappointing. Ramen at Ryowa was not what I remembered at all, and In-n-Out... In-n-Out has failed me too? My protein style #2 was disappointing... why o' why?

Although food was disappointing, my friends never disappoint me! They are always there when I need them! As I would always thought my friends are my family and their support means as much as my family! Always thank them for being around to chat and catch up, even if it was just lunch or fast dinner! Thanks Joanne and Dai so~~~

DONATION THANK YOU

And of course I can't thank enough for all friends that I don't see on a regular basis, but still support me through the TNT race! Thank you so much everyone!
  • Doris - she was my badminton partner during our senior year in high school, we played in the CCS together and we kicked ass. Haven't talk to her since HS, and thanks to facebook, we're connected again! Thank you Doris!!!
  • Yvonne - really do I need an intro for her? My partner for life (self-claimed and not official) She's the bestest person in the whole-wide-world! I LOVE YOU!!!!!
  • Nicola - my favorite Scottish friend! She was one of my friends in college that did the TNT marathon! My comrade!!! Go team!!! Thanks you not only for the donation, but for inspiring me to do this event!
  • Maggy - my fellow guinea pig parent buddy! She has pet guinea pigs, and we always have our parent talk about our "babies" Where are you these days? We need a parent meeting!

It's really cool that we've raised over $1,100 already! It's not only me, it's all of you guys! Thank you so much!!!

Meanwhile, Von and I are bake sale for this event too! So we'll be little bakers in the house! Yummmm Cookies!!! If you really want some cookies but you live in the other side of the states, I can send them, but will have to charge you shipping, as we really want all proceed go toward the fundraising goal! And if you live locally, hell email me!
